Nonprofits and local government agencies may add new volunteer opportunities by following the following steps:   (NOTE: If your agency already has an account with CVNL please skip ahead to the third step)

First: Create a user account as a volunteer

  1. Hover your mouse over the "Volunteers" tab.
  2. Click on "Sign-Up/Registration".
  3. If a message pops up indicating that you already have an account, you'll be able to login once you reset your password.

Second: Sign up your nonprofit or local government agency

  1. Hover your mouse over "Nonprofits & Agencies".
  2. Click Sign-Up/ Registration.
  3. Enter information into all fields, including the same email address you used to register as a volunteer.
  4. Submit to CVNL for approval.
  5. Once CVNL approves your organization, you'll be ready to post volunteer opportunities!

Third: Add or edit volunteer opportunities

  1. Once the system recognizes that your individual user account is linked to your organization's account, you'll be able to add or edit your volunteer opportunities.
  2. Log in using your username and password.
  3. You'll see text that says "Welcome to the Sharing Portal".
  4. On the side, you'll see a menu. Click on "Volunteer Opportunities" on the left-hand side.
  5. Near the upper corner, click the box that says "Create New Volunteer Opportunity" on the right-hand side.
  6. Give your volunteer opportunity a catchy name that will appeal to potential volunteers.
  7. Indicate if you'd like volunteers to sign up for specific shifts "dates/times" or if they can tell you their own hours ("individually scheduled").
  8. Indicate if you'd like them to sign up directly via the online volunteer portal, or if you'd like them to express interest only, which means you'll sign them up officially after you've interacted with them.
  9. Add a position description that is also catchy, fun, and meaningful. Remember that volunteers want to help you fulfill your mission, so ensure you clearly connect the volunteer's tasks with your mission.
  10. Fill out the rest of the fields.
  11. Click "Next" and then fill out how long you would like to post this volunteer opportunity.
  12. Click "Create." CVNL will review the volunteer opportunity and post it ASAP.
  13. If you post volunteer opportunities frequently, contact Kerry Burke at to ask that CVNL automatically approve your opportunities after you post them.
