Founded in 1975, LITA is a nonprofit organization that strives to improve the quality of life for older adults living in Marin County's long-term care facilities primarily by providing volunteer friends for regular visits, and also providing a variety of volunteer programs specific to volunteer and resident interests. Take the Lonely Out of Aging! Marin's population of people over the age of 60 is increasing rapidly. Many are moving into or already live in a long-term care facility where LITA has established presence since 1975. LITA has created and launched a variety of programs to help cultivate mutually enriching friendships through common interests or social structure(s) of importance to older adult residents: One-to-One friends*Bridging GenerationsBridging Thru MusicFamily Connections*Pet Connections*Holiday Gifts**Recruitment is ongoingLITA: Works with and places volunteers in Retirement (Skilled Nursing, Assisted Living, Memory Care), Rehabilitation, and Board & Care facilities. Interview and screen both volunteers and residents to assess viability. Volunteers from facility staff members, Social workers, Ombudsmen, family members, and friends. Coordinates holiday gift giving, clothing drives, brown bag lunches, fundraisers, volunteer appreciation events, attends and participates in a variety of community events, such as the annual Senior Information Fair. Evaluates pets for the Pet Connection program. This includes assessing pet visiting readiness, based on professional pet agency guidelines. Conducts new volunteer orientation, reference checks. Inform, guide, and support all volunteers as needed.
