What We Do:
Matrix Parent Network and Resource Center, a parent-run information and resource center helping families of children with special needs, is a valuable resource for families in the North Bay. Our mission is to empower families of children with special needs (ages birth to 26) to successfully understand and access the systems that serve them.
Who We Are:
Recognizing the unique challenges that exist for parents raising a child with special needs, Matrix provides parent-to-parent support, education, and guidance to help parents gain a better understanding of their children?s needs and become more confident in their ability to care for and obtain the services necessary to help their children. Matrix?s staff, comprised mainly of parents of children with special needs, provides a full array of services to the community, including: ? Individual Support and Technical Assistance -- The Matrix Helpline (1-800-578-2592) is available to all parents of children with special needs, ages birth to 22 years. Open Monday through Thursday, 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM; bilingual and bicultural staff are available to serve Latino families. ? Trainings and Workshops about Special Education and school services; ? Direction and Referrals to appropriate early intervention and health care services; ? Support Groups for families across neighborhoods, age groups and disabilities; ? Library, Publications, and Website -- a comprehensive resource and lending library of family and disability-related materials; monthly e-newsletter,and semi-annual newsletter; informative website with helpful links and materials, www.matrixparents.org Matrix provides these services free of charge to a diverse group of families in rural and urban settings across Marin, Solano, Sonoma and Napa counties. In addition, Matrix strives to effect systems change by acting as an ongoing resource to families, healthcare providers, educators, policy makers, agency directors and others in the design, implementation and evaluation of programs and policies for children and their families. A certified Parent Information and Training Center, Matrix provides technical assistance to other Parent Training and Information Centers throughout the Western United States. Matrix is supported by the U.S. Department of Education, the California Department of Education, the Marin Community Foundation, and other private foundations, corporations, and individuals.
