What We Do:
Horseplay Therapeutic Riding Center was founded in Vacaville, California, by RuthAnn Davis, in 1995. Following an auto accident and later being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis Miss Davis used horse therapy to treat her own physical needs. Realizing the value of using horses for therapy, she joined the nationally recognized organization, North American Riding for the Handicap Association (NARHA) â?? which has since been renamedProfessional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH Intl). She became a certified instructor, and then opened her Vacaville NARHA Center, naming it Horseplay Therapeutic Riding Center. With three horses and volunteers from her church, Miss Davis started providing therapeutic riding sessions for special needs children from the local community. After Miss Davis retired in 2000, members of the Board of Directors and staff continued her program. With the support of the community, local businesses and corporate sponsorship the center has steadily grown. Horseplay now has 5 horses, provides therapeutic riding sessions 3 days per week, and serves a tri county area. In January 2007, Horseplay moved their operations to a gorgeous ranch, Black Tie Arabians, located in Dixon, California. As an active PATH member, Horseplay is one of over 800 U.S. and international therapy centers providing equine therapy to special needs individuals. The overall goal of Horseplay is to continue expanding the program and be able to serve more special needs children and adults within the local communities.
